C’est le nom d’un nouveau site anglais pour combattre l’anti-americanisme dans le monde. Souhaitons leur beaucoup de courage…
Leur profession de foi : « Ours is a better world because of America. The world is safer because of the American soldier. The world is wealthier because of American enterprise. The world is healthier because of American technology. No nation is perfect, but imagine the world without America. I reject anti-Americanism. American aid to the developing world
America is sometimes attacked for its lack of generosity in aid to the developing world. The reality, when all forms of aid are considered, is of very high levels of generosity.
Government aid
In 2006, the United States government gave $23.53 billion in overseas development assistance.[1] In absolute terms, this is the highest figure, almost twice the $12.46 billion given by the UK, the next highest. As a share of the American economy, it is, however, a low figure by comparison with most wealthy nations (0.18% as opposed to an average 0.31%).[2] This latter figure is often used in isolation, and presented as demonstrating America’s lack of generosity and lack of engagement with the outside world, but is not a complete picture.
Private aid
Considered in a broader context, American aid makes an overwhelming contribution to international development. What sets the United States apart is its extremely high levels of private philanthropy, variously distributed by foundations, voluntary and religious organisations and universities. The 2008 Index of Global Philanthropy found private aid to developing countries from the United States adding up to $34.8 billion. Next highest were the United Kingdom and Germany, which gave $1.61 billion and $1.35 billion respectively.[3] See below from The Economist.[4]
One reason for this difference is the major advantages the US tax system creates for private charity, allowing Americans to reduce their taxable income by charitable donations. Arguably, the US Treasury is therefore helping ensure high overall levels of aid in a less direct but no less effective way than in countries with a greater share of government expenditure on aid.
A breakdown of private aid
- There are over 71,000 grant-making foundations in the United States, responsible for $4 billion of aid in 2006 – a substantial increase on $2.4 billion for the previous year. The majority of grants went into health programmes, with other causes including international development and relief and the environment.[5]
- America corporations gave $5.5 billion in aid to developing countries in 2006.[6]
- American private and voluntary organisations gave $10.6 billion.[7]
- American universities gave $3.7 billion in scholarships, grants and other support.[8]
- American religious organisations gave $8.8 billion.[9]
Remittances
A further way in which America’s economy and work force makes a difference to the developing world is through payments by people working in the United States to family living abroad. Although not a direct form of aid, the impact of remissions on developing economies is considerable. Total global remittances were $122.4 billion in 2006. Of this figure, the United States is far ahead of other countries, with $71.5 billion of this total coming from the United States. Next highest are Canada and Germany, each with $6.8 billion.[10]
Overall private charity
The Fraser Institute in Canada has compared overall levels of charitable donations (domestic and international) in the United States with overall levels in Canada, controlling for differences in income and exchange rate. It found a major difference between the two countries:
“When the depth of generosity in each country is compared, the gap widens significantly. In 2005, Americans gave 1.77 percent of their aggregate personal income to charity, resulting in a total of US$182 billion in donations. This rate of giving is more than double that of Canadians, who gave 0.75 percent of their aggregate income (Cdn$7.8 billion in total) to charity in 2005. If Canadians had given, in aggregate, the same percentage of their incomes to charity as Americans did, the Canadian charitable sector would have received an additional $10.4 billion in privately-donated revenue.”[11]
American engagement
The high levels of foreign aid America gives to developing countries can be be understood in the context of America’s continuing engagement with the world, also demonstrated by the broader benefits of American military power. American defence and intelligence facilities such as satellites provide early warning of crises and support for the delivery of emergency aid during humanitarian disasters. The US Navy’s patrols ensure a general freedom of the seas. This combats sea banditry and piracy, a growing problem in Southeast Asia and off the Horn of Africa, and ensures the Strait of Hormuz is kept open. America’s contribution to 22% of the UN’s overall budget helps support more than one thousands UN peacekeepers in missions around the globe, with the US military further supplying much logistic and intelligence support

Et bein, chère Lagrette, nous avons visiblement goûté au même global warming.
J’etais avec ma petite famille, ce mois de juillet, en face de vous, sur les plages de la presqu’île guerandaise. A quelques semaines près, on aurait pu se faire des cou-cou par télé-objectif interposés.
Même si j’adore ce genre de Global warming, pour avoir passé mes meilleurs vacances estivales au bord du Gerangerfjord, je dois avouer que ça surprend. J’ai même chopé un petit coup de froid intestinal. Je songe d’ailleurs à augmenter considérablement mes émissions de CO2 histoire de pouvoir remettre mes jolis ticheurtes estivaux qui sont restés au placard.
De toute façon j’ai pensé à vous en prenant quelques photos afin d’illustrer le local warming français, photos qui ne manqueront pas de faire sensation sur eXtremecentre la semaine prochaine 
A ce sujet il serait bon de prévoir une nouvelle catégorie: « virées d’un pingouin eXcentriste » ou » Mon pingouin se les gèle ». Vous comprendrez bientot pourquoi…

Merci pour l’info lagrette, c’est un site intéressant qui peut amener les anti-US à revoir leur jugement..même si je ne sais pas si ça suffira a convaincre les purs et durs.
Je constate autour d emoi que l’anti-américanisme « est le seul racisme aujourd’h'ui toléré » et qu’il se manifeste simplement en ces termes, « fanatiques avec les modérés et modérés avec les fanatiques »..marci à Pascal Bruckner et à l’imensse JF Revel pour les citations…

Je suis allee gouter du global warming a la francaise, et bien c’est pas reussi …. 
Al Gore a des explications a donner a tous ces vacanciers qui se gelaient sur les plages de Vendee au mois d’Aout. Je ne ralais pas trop, parce que je savais que j’allais rentrer dans la canicule texane, mais meme ici, nous avons le mois d’aout le plus pluvieux depuis 1915, et ce soir il doit faire a peine 20*C dehors ( Ok, c’est quand meme plus chaud que de nombreux midi a Noirmoutier, mais quand meme !)…

Oui, ça ne m’étonnerait pas du vieux briscard d’avoir trompé son bec dedans. Question de conclure quelques juteux contrats juste avant que ça ne barde là-bas. Le Moineau-hardi qui pond toujours au bon endroit. L’art de s’asseoir sur les charbons ardents pour transformer ses fientes en or sonnant et trébuchant.

MOSCOU, 19 août – RIA Novosti. Le président russe Dmitri Medvedev a exprimé ses condoléances à son homologue français Nicolas Sarkozy pour la mort de militaires français en Afghanistan, a annoncé mardi à RIA Novosti le service de presse du Kremlin.
« Monsieur le président, cher Nicolas. J’ai appris avec douleur la mort de dix soldats français en Afghanistan à la suite d’une attaque extrémiste contre une colonne du contingent français. Je vous demande de transmettre mes profondes condoléances aux proches et aux parents des victimes qui ont accompli leur devoir militaire, et mes meilleures voeux de rétablissement aux blessés », stipule le message de condoléances.
Dix soldats français du contingent de l’OTAN ont péri lundi et mardi en Afghanistan lors de combats contre des talibans près de Kaboul, capitale de l’Afghanistan.
