Le Figaro Says it is Sorry for Publishing Islamophobe Article

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Mr Pierre Rousselin, Senior Editor for Le Figaro expressed on the Arabic news channel Al Jazeera his regrets concerning the publication of an islamophobe and heinous article signed by Redeker, published in le Figaro on September 19, 2006. Mr. Rousselin declared that the publication of such an article was a mistake, and stated that this text does not express the opinion of the newspaper but that it was published within the framework of an opinion column that only engages its author. He added that sometimes errors occur, and texts are published without preliminary checking.

On September 19, 2006, Le Figaro published an islamophobe article signed Robert Redeker, Professor of Philosophy at the Pierre-Paul-Riquet Highschool in Saint-Orens de Gammeville. Redeker’s article was posted on the Figaro’s website the day it was published in the newspaper then removed from site the next day.

Bizâncio representa a América no Ocidente… [...]

    Mike:

    Lagrette,
You are absolutely correct. It was thoughtless of me to condemn the whole of French society for the craveness of a single newspaper. And equally correct in that none of the MSM in America dared to print the Mo’ Toons, the weasels! They were roundly condemned by me and others for their gutlessness. I guess I was expressing frustration at seeing yet another promising voice squelched, another organ of « free speech » dhimmi’d down. Under the irony of the artistic community, which viciously had defended its right to express itself and visibly bristles at the slightest, real and imagined, call for restraint, good taste, etc., voluntarily backing down, surrendering, to clerics no less, the final say on editorial content, and in FRANCE, I saw all my worst nightmares being incarnated.

This is not merely the camel’s nose under the tent. This is the beating on the door with rifle butts at night in the cold rain. Somebody has to rally the brave French to defend the liberty we all enjoy; to defend it now while it can be done with words.

  • 26
    lagrette:

As far as French newspapers are concerned, Le Monde would usually be the one that would compare to the NYT, as organ of misinformation… They would never have published Redeker in the first place ( a few, on eXc, call it « l’Immonde », which translates as « rubbish » !), like Le Figaro did. Le Figaro has some great collumnists, but I think they just got scared of launching another cartoon war… remember in the US not many papers published the cartoons, for the exact same reasons…

  • 24
    Mike:

    Lagrette,
Thanks for checking that out for me. Please keep up the good work! We need to know how poor Mr. Redeker and his family are getting along. So far the story hasn’t gotten much play, aside from the NYT (which I consider an abomination on par with Le Figaro), in the MSM.

Thank God for Extreme Center and Michelle Malkin and the others like Mr. Redeker, who have the guts to stand up and say « I will not submit! »

  • 23
    Mike:

    Sittingbull,
You are correct. I apologize for confusing Extreme Center with LeFigaro. I later made a clarification of my possible ignorance when I posted this on my blog. Please forgive me! I will update my blog, also, by pointing out the difference in no uncertain terms and confess my ignorance!

Extreme Center does a great service for us Anglos in providing us with these translations and for staying on top of this story. Thanks again!

    Sittingbull:

    @mike:
It seems you are confusing the list of our likes and dislikes (our politics) with the Figaro cave in. We have nothing to do with the Figaro. We approve when they support freedom, blame when they appease the islamofascists.
Anyway I don’t understand the link you make between our mottos and the Figaro.

    lagrette:

I checked that article in the Figaro that you mentioned, Mike. It just gives the info that was available on Friday about Redeker’s fate. It has less infos actually than the NYT article that I posted here, so I am not even going to try and translate it. As I said as an intro for the NYT’s article : they seem to know more about the whole ordeal than all the Franch press combined. Which makes me think that the French press is actually auto-censoring either because they’re playing their usual dhimmis role, or because they have been asked to, for Redeker’s sake.

I’ll look it up, Mike and if it’s not too long I’ll translate it…

I also know that le Monde will have an editorial tomorrow on freedom of speech . From what I have read about it, it’s very timid, like le Figaro’s was. Same thing, I’ll try and find time to translate it.

    Mike:

The funny thing is the Le Figaro still has the « We therefore condemn with the utmost vigor the serious infringements to freedom of thought and freedom of expression tha this affair has caused » editorial posted while Robert Redeker’s original piece is nowhere to be found…except on Extreme Center.
Instead they have a an article (I can’t tell whether it’s an editorial or a news item) referring to Redeker’s piece). Would be cool to see a translation of this.

My French is not up to translating accurately this phrase which appears at the top the Extreme Center web site. However, after reading this latest example of subjugation to Islam by fear and intimidation, the phrase, whether in French or in English, or in any other language, means absolutely nothing.

Do the editors of Le Figaro not see the irony? I have to believe that they do. As literate and sentient human beings, how can they not? So they have consciously submitted, like the Vichy before them, to the forces of fear and intimidation, hoping to spare themselves by prostration. They have consciously traded their self-respect, pride, honor, freedom of thought and of speech, and the separation of religion and « l’etat » for…..what, exactly? Their lives? Their livelihood? And what of the lives of their children? And of their childrens’ children? I guess they will never know what it was like to publish or read a newspaper like Le Figaro. They will never walk through the Louvre and witness the beauty of the Enlightenment and the Rennaisance. They will be universally reviled first by their masters the islamists to whom their fathers and grandfathers willfully submitted and second by the remaining free nations whose sons and daughters are forced to fight harder and die in greater numbers to guard the freedoms that their forefathers fought and died to defend and that the French so easily and willfuly served up to their masters on a silver platter.

I beg you, while you still can, stop the inevitable violence with ideas. Do not force my sons and grandsons into uniforms and ranks onto the bloody battlefields of France, again. Because, once liberated a third time, they will not ask your permission to stay. They will stay to defend the frontiers of peace and freedom, whether you like it or not. You have forfeited the right of your own sovreignty and by doing so imperiled the rest of the free world. We will not, I should hope and pray, allow you to do so again.

The speed with which France is permitting its own demise at the hands of the enemies of freedom is alarming and tragic.Perhaps it is time to expel those who would destroy her from within, rather than allowing them to dictate her present and future.
